Frank Mir Named As Jiu-Jitsu Coach For Jon Jones' Team On The Ultimate Fighter 17
Reigning UFC light heavyweight champ and upcoming coach of The Ultimate Fighter 17, Jon Jones, revealed his cast of assistant coaches during a Metro PCS chat on Tuesday — a cast that includes former UFC heavyweight champ Frank Mir.
“I have a great training staff,” said Jones. “I have Frank Mir; he’s going to be our jiu-jitsu coach.”
“I have Stonehorse Goeman, who is my original Muay Thai teacher,” Jones continued. “I have John Woods from Las Vegas (on Greg Jackson’s suggestion); the guy is a well rounded martial artist, a little bit of jiu-jitsu, a little bit of everything. He’s going to be one of our overseeing type coaches. Then I have Bubba Jenkins. The guy is an NCAA national wrestling champion.”

Jones will coach TUF 17 opposite former middleweight title contender Chael Sonnen, with the two squaring off in a light heavyweight title bout on April 27. The upcoming season began filming earlier this week and will air on FX beginning in January.
A storied Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blackbelt with nine of his sixteen career victories by way of tapout, the 12-year veteran Mir brings a wealth of knowledge to Team Jones, having also coached The Ultimate Fighter 8 against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
Sonnen, meanwhile, who was also part of the chat on Tuesday, has yet to reveal the details of his coaching squad.
