Tim Kennedy vs. Trevor Smith Booked For November 3 Strikeforce Event

A middleweight scrap between Tim Kennedy (14-4) and Trevor Smith (10-2) has been booked for Strikeforce's November event, promotion officials announced on Thursday.

The November 3rd card, which takes place at the Chesapeake Energy Center in Oklahoma City, was originally scheduled to be headlined by a heavyweight tilt between undefeated standout Daniel Cormier and former UFC titleholder Frank Mir. It was announced earlier this week, however, that Mir was forced to withdraw from the bout due to an undisclosed injury. Strikeforce officials are currently seeking a replacement to face Cormier at the fall event.

Kennedy recently came up short against reigning Strikeforce middleweight champ Luke Rockhold last July, dropping a unanimous decision in his second career title bid. Prior to the defeat, the 33-year-old notched consecutive victories over Melvin Manhoef and Robbie Lawler.

Smith, meanwhile, will make his return to the Strikeforce cage this November after picking up a win under the BXC banner last June. The victory marked his sixth in seven outings, having finished all of them by submission.
