Report: Frank Mir Injured, Out Of Daniel Cormier Strikeforce Fight

The rampant injury bug has struck again, this time nixing Zuffa's first inter-promotional bout between former UFC heavyweight champ Frank Mir (16-6) and unbeaten Strikeforce standout Daniel Cormier (10-0).

According to a report by Gabriel Morency on Sports Rage on Tuesday, Mir sustained an undisclosed injury in training that has forced him from a November 3 match against the Strikeforce World Heavyweight Grand Prix Champion.

The pair were slated to meet in Cormier's hometown of Oklahoma City under the Strikeforce banner on Showtime, however, it remains unclear if Zuffa will attempt to find a replacement for Mir.

Mir last competed at May's UFC 146 where he suffered a second-round technical knockout defeat at the hands of reigning heavyweight champ Junior dos Santos. Prior to the loss, the former UFC heavyweight title holder was on a three-fight win streak, including victories over Roy Nelson, Mirko 'Cro Cop' and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Cormier, meanwhile, remains unbeaten as a professional, including a perfect 7-0 run as a member of the Strikeforce roster. After defeating veteran Jeff Monson last year, the former two-time Olympic wrestler joined the Strikeforce World Heavyweight Grand Prix Tournament in place of Alistair Overeem who jumped ship to the UFC. In his first tournament bout, Cormier knocked out Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva in the semifinals and later scored a unanimous decision over Josh Barnett to win the eight-man tourney.
