Report: Anderson Silva Offered To Step In At UFC 151

According to a report by MMAFighting.com late Thursday, Anderson Silva offered to step in and save the recently-cancelled UFC 151 card next weekend.

UFC 151 was scrapped on Thursday after Dan Henderson was forced to withdraw from the main event due to injury, and champ Jon Jones turned down a fight against Chael Sonnen — a proposed replacement opponent on eight days notice.

Silva reportedly offered to step in and compete at the event against an unnamed light heavyweight, UFC President Dana White confirmed to MMAFighting.com on Thursday. The call came too late, however, as the event had already been cancelled.

Jones will now face Vitor Belfort in the main event of UFC 152 on September 22 at Toronto's Air Canada Centre. In the co-main event, Joseph Benavidez takes on Demetrious Johnson in a bout to crown the promotion's first-ever flyweight champion. Also, Michael Bisping meets Brian Stann in a pivotal middleweight tilt.
