UFC 148 Draws Record-Breaking 15,104 Attendees For $6.9 Million Live Gate
As expected, July's UFC 148 card set record numbers in the United States, shattering previous live gate and attendance numbers.
UFC 148 officially drew 15,104 attendees — 13,606 of which were sold, 1,498 comped and 64 seats unsold — for a live gate of $6,901,655. Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer confirmed the numbers to CageReligion.com via email on Tuesday.
UFC 148 took place on July 7 at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena and aired live on pay-per-view, with the preliminary card broadcasting on FX and streaming on Facebook.
In the main event, Anderson Silva successfully defended his middleweight crown a record-extending tenth consecutive time after dispatching of longtime rival Chael Sonnen via second round technical knockout.
The summer event trumped the promotion's previous record set in 2006 at UFC 66, which saw then-reigning champ Chuck Liddell defend his light heavyweight belt against Tito Ortiz, also at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. UFC 66 drew an attendance of 13,761 for a live gate of $5,397,300.
