Daniel Cormier To Return At September 29 Strikeforce Event

Strikeforce World Heavyweight Grand Prix Champion Daniel Cormier (10-0) will compete in what could be his final Strikeforce match at the promotion's September event.

Strikeforce officials announced a planned event for September 29 at Sacramento's Power Balance Pavillion during Saturday's broadcast of "Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy", which will feature Cormier, likely in the main event slot. No opponent was named for the American Kickboxing Academy representative, nor were any additional bouts.

After The Ultimate Fighting Championship absorbed Strikeforce's heavyweight division earlier this year, Cormier and Strikeforce World Heavyweight Grand Prix finalist Josh Barnett stand as the lone big men on the promotion's roster.

Cormier remains unbeaten as a professional, including a perfect 6-0 run under the Strikeforce banner. In his most recent outing, the 2008 Olympic wrestling team captain dominated Barnett en route to earning a unanimous decision to win the Strikeforce World Heavyweight Grand Prix. The victory came months after an impressive first-round knockout of Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva.

Strikeforce's next event takes place on August 18 at San Diego's Valley View Casino and is headlined by a women's bantamweight title clash between recently-crowned champion Ronda Rousey and ex-titleholder Sarah Kaufman
