Thiago Alves Out, Chris Clements Steps In Against Siyar Bahadurzada At UFC 149

An undisclosed injury has forced Thiago Alves (19-9) from July's UFC 149 where he was slated to take on fellow striking standout Siyar Bahadurzada (21-4-1). In his place steps Ontario, Canada native Chris Clements (11-4)

UFC officials announced the bout on Monday.

UFC 149 takes place on July 21 at Calgary, Alberta, Canada's Scotiabank Saddledome and is headlined by a featherweight title clash between reigning champ Jose Aldo and fellow WEC veteran Erik Koch. Additional bouts for the summer event include Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cheick Kongo and Michael Bisping vs. Tim Boetsch.

Clements recently found success in his Octagon debut at last April's UFC 145, earning a hard-fought split decision over Keith Wisniewski. The victory capped off a five-fight win streak, having bested the likes of Jonathan Goulet and Rich Clementi

Bahadurzada too came out victorious in his first UFC fight, knocking out Paulo Thiago in just 42-seconds last April. Prior to the win, the Afghan striker put together six-straight victories — all but one by way of knockout — with wins over Derrick Noble and John Alessio
